Top 10 UNESCO Sites

There are 911 World Heritage Sites all over the world, each and every one of them unique and amazing, with an outstanding cultural and natural heritage. From the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu, to the Great Wall of China and the holy city of Vatican, they all receive thousands of visitors each year. This top ten includes only a small fraction of all UNESCO sites around the globe, but they are some of the most representative.

Stonehenge

One of the most famous sites in the world. Britain's greatest national icon.

Jerusalem

Inhabited since 2800 BC, Jerusalem is a unique place and a holy city.

The Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx

Built around 4500 years ago, they are the most famous monuments of ancient Egypt.

Vatican City

This small slice of the city is packed with more history and artwork than most cities in the world.

Easter Island

This Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean is famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapanui people.

Tikal

One of the most fascinating and enjoyable of the Mayan sites, and a World Heritage Site since 1979.

Machu Picchu

2,430 metres (8,000 ft) above sea level on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru stand the ruins of Machu Picchu, a pre-Columbian Inca site rediscovered in 1911 by archaeologist Hiram Bingham.

Chichen Itza

The largest of the archaeological cities of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization and one of the new wonders of the world.

Angkor Wat

Great Wall of China

Listed in the UNESCO World Heritage in 1987, The Great Wall of China is a fortification built and rebuilt between the 5Th century BC and the 16Th century.
