This half day Kauai tour will take you to explore panoramic Waimea Canyon which Mark Twain called, "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific." Over ten miles long, and almost 4,000 feet deep, this marvel was formed thousands of years ago by rivers and floods that flowed from Mount Waialeale's summit and the catastrophic collapse of the volcano that created Kauai. Waimea Canyon State Park encompasses 1,866 acres and is a popular tourist attraction on the island. It provides a wilderness area with numerous hiking trails. It can be accessed from Waimea on Hawaii state road 550, which is 18 miles long and leads up to Koke'e State Park. The island of Niihau, only a short distance west of Kauai at that point, can be clearly seen from the highway.
As we cruise along the southern coast, we'll drive through Poipu, a resort getaway made famous in the Elvis Presley movie, Blue Hawaii, and home to exciting Spouting Horn. This natural wonder occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface, making an eerie hissing noise.
