Head straight to the Cava Capital, in the Penedès wine-growing region or to the wine Capital, in DO Alella area. Visit the most prestigious Cava underground cellars and the renowned vineyards in Europe. Both areas boasts the widest varieties of grape of any wine-growing region in the world. Learn how the famous wine and cava (local champagne) are produced, from the first pressing of the grapes to the fermentation in the cellars. This will be accompanied by the chance to sample the product and see exactly why they have acquired such international fame.

Tour continues in a Human Tower Association center. Learn about this time-honored Catalan tradition, listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, and watch the community performing. Human towers or Castells are a tradition of more than 100 years, which is now the liveliest popular expression of Catalan culture. Enter where over 100 members of the Casteller team meet is and get amazed by this breathtaking tradition. Later on, you can have a go yourself! Entirely optional, your ‘practice session’ includes the use of a traditional castell outfit and the help of an instructor to form part of la “pinya” – the solid human base of the tower.

Small group half day tour from Barcelona. Tour of family owned winery, cellar and vineyards. Enjoy a wine tasting session (still and sparkling wines and cavas). Visit a Human Tower Association center to see a live ‘human tower’ rehearsal – a tradition noted as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Take part in a human tower display and form part of the tower base (optional). Small-group tour with a maximum of 12 people ensures a more personalized experience. Meeting locals and participate in the local activity.

Hours of operation

This tour is available, from March to November. Penedès wine-growing region + Vilafranca del Penedès Human Tower Builders: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:00 pm. DO Alella wine-growing region + Capgrossos de Mataró Human Tower Builders: Tuesdays and Fridays at 5:00 pm. This tour is not available July 28th, August 4th, 11th, 18th. Please arrive 15 minutes prior the tour.

Additional Information There will be time off the bus at your leisure, so please bring suitable clothing and footwear. Please bring comfortable clothing if you would like to participate in the human towers activity. Please, bring sun protection during summer season.

Minimum age for wine tasting is 18 years. Minors will taste drinks with no alcohol. Note that Spanish law requires children under 10 years to travel in a children's car seat. Infant seats are available by request if advised at time of booking.
