The Historic Vaults Tour

Hear the authentic history of the underground. This is your chance to visit the Blair Street Underground Vaults - the deepest, largest and most extensive in the city whilst in the company of a Mercat historian.

We will recount the history of the Vaults, recall their stories and answer your questions during this fascinating experience.

Transportation to and from the departure location; Gratuities.

Hours of operation

Available: Daily; 2:00pm and 4:00pm; During winter (November-March) 2:00pm is on Saturday and Sunday only. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour.

Duration

Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

Location Tour departs from the Mercat Cross, High Street next to St. Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile. Finish point: Interpretation Room, Blair Street.

Participant restrictions

For health & safety reasons we are unable to allow any children under the age of 5 on our underground tours.

Additional information As you are participating in a walking tour, primarily outdoors, please dress appropriately for both the weather and terrain – comfortable, sensible walking shoes and warm, waterproof clothing when required.
