We will have an insight of the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel to understand the reasons why they were erected here, from a political and ideological point of view. Both constructions differ from one another, from a Gothic to a Renaissance style.
Royal Chapel: Place of burial for the Catholic Kings of Castille, Isabel and Fernando, as well as their daughter Juana ‘la Loca’ and her husband Felipe ‘El Hermoso’. They chose the city of Granada for the construction of Spain’s largest burial chapel, in which interiors feature marble from Carrara, as well as one of Spain’s most impressive wrought-iron works, not to mention Queen Isabels Flemish paintings collection.
Cathedral: Spain’s first Renaissance cathedral and second largest in the country. A huge landmark at the heart of Granada, it was conceived to show the world how important the city was at the moment. From an architectural point of view, a ground-breaking rounded altar and a very interesting paintings collection from
Alonso Cano, an important artist hailing from Granada.
