The 90 km of twists and turns run across the tallest sections of the Carpathian Mountains, between the highest peak in the country and the second highest, climbing to an altitude of 2,034 metres. Among the attractions along the road, you can find Bâlea Lake and Bâlea Waterfall.
In their car test in Romania, in September 2009, the editors of BBC Top Gear declared Transfăgărăşan Road the best road in the world. They were really enthusiastic about the turmoil of the alpine road that crosses the Carpathians.
Offering dramatic views and breathtakingly beautiful places, a drive on this road is not something to miss.
