One of New Zealand’s top destinations, the Bay of Islands, is located south of the remote northernmost tip of New Zealand. Captain Cook gave the area its name almost two and a half centuries ago. The bay includes over 140 islands.

White sand beaches and bays stretch around a stunning coastline, with a plentiful marine wildlife. In summer visitors can stroll beneath the vivid scarlet Pohutukawa trees, all part of a subtropical wonderland which has an average summer temperature of 24 degrees.

The Bay of Islands is 250km north of New Zealand's biggest city, Auckland which makes the destination an easy day trip. Several overnight options are also available for people wish to spend more time in the Winterless North, especially if they wish to visit the Northern most part of New Zealand, Cape Reinga.
