This Seventy-two Mile drive is known as one of the most beautiful drives in America! As the mountainous scenery unfolds photo opportunities abound. When possible, this tour includes many of the locations in our half day tour and much more. Leaving the South Shore areas, our next location is one of the most photographed spots in the world “Emerald Bay”. Emerald Bay’s deep green water is the site of the only island in Lake Tahoe, Fanette Island. The small structure atop the island is the teahouse, built by Luara Knight, who also constructed a 38-room Scandinavian castle built in 1929, located at the beach in Emerald Bay.
Our journey continues as we wind around to the West shore of Lake Tahoe. Just a few miles past Emerald Bay is one of the spectacular Tahoe beaches, and when in season, we take a short hike on Tahoe’s best hiking trail where the beautiful colors in the water will make you think you are in the Caribbean.
As we continue down the West shore there are famous Tahoe Mansions, as well as the home where they filmed Godfather 2. As we enter into North Lake Tahoe, we will stop at a special location where often 5 pound trout are present. As we continue around the Lake we will pass by and stop if desired at the Cal-Neva Lodge. This property was once owned by Frank Sinatra with his elusive ties to the mob. There are secret tunnels underneath this property where famous people like Marilyn Monroe, The Rat Pack, JFK, and many others used to stay out of public view. As we enter into Incline Village we will drive down to area where many of the homes start in the 50 million dollar range.
We will then climb a 9,000 foot pass where you will have unparalleled views of the entire Lake and surrounding areas. Leaving Incline Village we will drive by the famous Ponderosa ranch, where Bonanza was filmed for many years. A minute from Incline village is another spectacular stop, where the huge rocks, amazing water color, and overall beauty exemplify is what Tahoe is known for.
