The Motu is just a three-minute boat ride from its sister property, the Marara—but its location, on a tiny private island, makes for a much more private and secluded atmosphere. Thirty bungalows, twenty of them on stilts over the water, make up the guest accommodations, and a restaurant pavilion on the hillside offers spectacular views of Mount Otemanu, across the lagoon.
The Marara’s facilities, on the main island, are available at any time, and the shuttle boat is on call to make the trip; but most guests will prefer the peace and quiet of Motu’s tiny one-hill island, contemplating the main island from afar. Bungalows are air-conditioned, with satellite television, and while perhaps not the most stunning interiors we’ve seen, it would be foolish to try to compete with the view.
The crystal blue waters are perfect for snorkeling, and kayaks and windsurfers are available to rent—though with the water right at your bungalow’s doorstep, you don’t need organized activities to enjoy the lagoon. And if you’re in the mood to explore the paths and trails of the rocky island, you’ll find a number of small beaches, some outfitted with patio furniture or even outdoor showers.
How to get there:
Sofitel Motu Bora Bora is approximately a 20 minute boat ride from Bora Bora Airport.
