The smallest of the Ionian Islands, very close to Corfu. In fact, the legend says that Paxos was part of Corfu until Poseidon, the god of sea, stroked Corfu with his trident, and so Paxos appeared. It was supposed to be a quiet place, where Poseidon and his wife, Amphitrite, could have some peace and quiet. Much of the island is covered by olive groves and the west coast is dominated by steep cliffs.
