In 1912 Monsieur Fournier bought this island as a present for his wife. He also planted two hundred of vineyard, which today still produce top quality wine, of excellent reputation.
In 1971, the state bought 4/5 of the island, and made it a nature reservation, in order to preserve it as it is and to prevent it from becoming too developed and touristy. The houses that exist are built in a traditional way and they perfectly blend with the natural beauty of the island.
