The first national park in the world, with a surface of 2,219,789 acres and the favorite destination for millions of visitors every year. Established in 1872, Yellowstone is equally known for its wildlife, such as grizzly bears, wolves, bison and wapitis. The park is famous for its geothermal phenomena. It has more geysers and hot springs than the rest of the world combined: 10,000 thermal springs and more than 300 geysers. The mineral waters coming from these hot springs have attracted thousands of people seeking for a natural cure for different disorders.
Natural wildlife, such as bears, wolves, elk, bison and trout, abound and can often be seen from the road. Evidence of human activity in the park, dating back as far as 12,000 years, has also been found and visitors can learn more about the area’s history at the Albright Visitor Center Museum.
Inside the park there are many inns and lodges where people can spend the night.
Today, 135 years after its designation, Yellowstone continues to provide inspiration for the people of the world and is a reflection of American values and ideals.
