30 years after becoming a national park, it was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage list. It is formed out of 16 lakes, which are divided into the Upper Lakes and the Lower Lakes. Put on a comfortable pair of shoes and prepare to explore. The trail system makes it easy to get close to the parks beauty. The biggest waterfall has a fall of 76 metres and depending on the recent rainfall the force of the Big Waterfall varies.
The park deserves at least a day of your time. But it you want to go hiking and not miss a thing, it would be best to stay there for a couple of days. There are hotels available but you can also camp.
The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. These geological processes continue today. The forests in the park are home to bears, wolves and many rare bird species.
