One of the world's most active volcanoes, with a constant eruption since 1983. It is situated in the southern part of Hawaii and it is the youngest of the five volcanoes that together form the island. The volcano's 1,250 meters peak has collapsed, forming a volcanic crater nearly 5 km long and 3.2 km wide.
The volcano's constant eruption is what gave it the name, 'kilauea' meaning 'much spreading'. Kilauea’s frequent eruptions are usually nonexplosive and offer spectacular views, especially if you get to see the lava entering the sea.
Hiking at Kilauea is very demanding and it must only be done by people with experience, who previously have been informed about the risks.
