Jal Mahal is noted for its complex architecture and for the picturesque view of Man Sagar Lake. It was built in the 18th century by Madho Singh I. It was used as a rest place and for the royal duck shooting parties.
A causeway on Man Sagar lake leads the way to the palace. Four of the five stories are underwater, only the top floor and the garden from the terrace being visible. The garden has arched passages and a tower with an elegant cupola at each corner.
The palace is now abandoned and in the winter months migratory birds can be seen flocking the lake. You can reach the palace by bus or by taxi from the main train station in Jaipur.
