It is located close to the town of Ilulissat, 250 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Because of global warming, the speed of the glacier has increased from 22 meters/day to 35 meters/day, making it one of the fastest and active glaciers in the world. It is one of the reasons why since 2004 it's been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The fjord can be reached by foot, boat or helicopter. It is an easy walk from the city and after 1-2 kilometers the icebergs can be seen, offering an impressive sight.
