A destination that everyone has probably heard of. A strip of land famous for its beauty, filled with natural attractions and a unique flora and fauna. Stretching along rocky coves and sandy beaches, dotted with lakes and lagoons here and there, the Garden Route connects a number of charming towns and seaside resorts.
The three main resorts on the Garden Route are Mossel Bay, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. All kind of adventure activities are possible here, from diving to parasailing, fishing, abseiling, surfing, rafting, kayaking, biking and much more. For some real outdoor adventure, Tsitsikamma National Park one of South Africa's best long-distance hikes, the 42 kilometers Otter Trail.
You can easily reach Garden Route from Cape Town or from George airport. One you're there you can rent a car or use public transport, and hop on and off along the route.
This part of South Africa is very different from the rest of the country, even the weather resembles the Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters. You won't experience the African safari here, but you can see the endangered Southern Right Whale which come in the Garden Route bays in the winter and spring.
Along the route, you'll find different types of accommodation, from cozy lodges to hotels, depends on your budget.
