The beach is located on the south-east coast of Barbados. It got its name after the large crane which used to load and unload ships here in the 18th century. It's known all over the world for its soft sand and also for being one of the most important nesting sites for piping plovers, a threatened bird species, hunted for its eggs and feathers in the 19th century.
Visitors can enjoy plenty outdoor recreations, soak up the sun or swim in the inviting waters. The waves here are moderate, perfect for body surfing and for experienced swimmers. For children there’s a protected cove a little farther along the beach.
There are no restaurants on the beach, but you can enjoy a picnic or go to a terrace at The Crane hotel.
