Cheile Bicazului (Bicaz Gorges)

( No user reviews )

General

This sinuous road has a special beauty, the limestone rocks of the walls hiding caves of rare beauty, like the Black Cave and the Waterfall Cave. Situated at only 20km from Bicaz city, the gorges connect two important areas of Romania: Transylvania and Moldavia. Along the road, there are lots of little souvenir shops, with products made by Romanian and Hungarian craftsman. They give this place a special something, by offering the tourists traditional things, that can only be found here.

Due to it's uniqueness, this stretch of road is part of the Hasmas-Bicaz Gorges National Park (Parcul National Hasmas-Cheile Bicazului), along with Red Lake (Lacul Rosu).

Passing with your car through this narrow road, is truly an experience. Driving through the pine woods, nothing but abyss on one side, it's almost a bit scary as one can imagine the car falling down into the chasm. Even if you pass through here in the summer time, the chilly mountain air will give you the shivers.

For the ones who love challenges, this is an area recommended for real climbers, with huge walls over 300 m high, including spectacular ceilings, deep crackers, great clear faces.
