An incredible feat of engineering, picturesque towns and countryside, a working windmill, a ride in an original steam train, and much more awaits you on your full day excursion to the wonders of North Holland. Your tour starts with a bus ride from Amsterdam to the Enclosing Dike (Afsluitdijk), where we stop to take photos and hear the incredible story of how this 32 kilometer long dike (connecting the provinces of North Holland and Friesland) was built between 1927 and 1933, turning the Zuiderzee from an inland sea into the IJssel lake. Next, we head to Medemblik, for a walking tour through this quaint town, with its many homes from the 17th and 18th century, churches, an old orphanage and Radboud Castle. We even visit a working windmill.
From Medemblik, we hop on an original steam train for a scenic ride through Dutch landscape to the town of Hoorn. In Hoorn, your guide takes you on a short walking tour, following which you have time to explore the city on your own before we return to Amsterdam..
