Hotel description

Some cities are compact and manageable, the kinds of places you can easily get your head around on just one visit. Istanbul is not one of these. It’s sprawling, chaotic, and ever-changing — so a hotel like the Sofa Hotel & Residences is doubly welcome. Not just because it’s a chic and luxurious little boutique hotel, exactly the sort we’re so enamored of, but also because it provides a foothold in an unfamiliar neighborhood — in this case Nisantasi, a district that’s home to much of Istanbul’s luxury-brand shopping, as well as all manner of cafés, clubs and restaurants.

The look is international, somewhat minimalist, a reminder that there’s more to Istanbul than the ancient mosques of the Sultanahmet — this is a 21st-century world capital, and the Sofa’s contemporary interiors confidently underscore that point. The hotel’s 65 rooms and 17 suites are outfitted with an eye to quality, and nothing is left out — rain showers, LCD screens, high-speed internet and laptop-sized safes. A spa and health club leave you with every opportunity to take care of yourself, and the restaurants are not to be missed: the casual Café Sofa and the more formal Longtable are both thoughtfully conceived and exquisitely designed.
